Arts Missoula is so excited to announce our new partnership with Big Sky Box Portable Storage! Together, we are creating a portable art experience using one of their 16 foot long storage containers. Our first art experience will be transforming the box into a walk through art gallery!
~Big Sky Box Portable Storage, locally owned and operated by Mike Eckelkamp and Justin Townsend, has built its business by providing convenient, affordable portable storage solutions for homeowners and businesses throughout Missoula. Their mobile storage containers make moving, remodeling, and storing belongings simple, but one retired container is about to begin a very different journey.~
When Mike and Justin approached Arts Missoula with the idea of transforming an unused storage container into a community art experience, our imaginations immediately took off. After tossing around what felt like a million ideas, and drawing inspiration from a similar project in our sister city of Palmerston North, New Zealand, we landed on something that felt uniquely Missoula.
Introducing Art Box.
Art Box transforms a 16-foot storage container into a portable arts destination. Inside, visitors will discover a fully renovated gallery space complete with lighting, flooring, and rotating exhibitions of local artwork. Outside the Box, the experience continues with hands-on art activities for all ages, while the exterior itself becomes a canvas, featuring original artwork created by local artists.
Designed to travel wherever creativity is needed, Art Box will pop up throughout the year, bringing art directly into community spaces. The inaugural activation takes place on July 28 at a Missoula PaddleHeads game, where Arts Missoula is honored to serve as the Community Partner for the evening. Future appearances are planned for First Fridays, German Fest, Missoula On Main, and other community events, creating new opportunities for people to discover local artists, make art together, and experience creativity in unexpected places.
