Open Art Call: Create a New Design for the Portable Art Box
Arts Missoula is so excited to announce our new partnership with Big Sky Box Portable Storage! Together, we are creating a portable art experience using one of their 16 foot long storage containers. Our first art experience will be transforming the box into a walk through art gallery!
Arts Missoula will hire one or more artists to paint a mural or design a vinyl wrap for the outside of the box. We are hosting an open art call for this project now through June 28th.
The inside of the box will be transformed into a cool and cozy art gallery where we will hang two-dimensional art from varying local artists.

Big Sky Box Portable Storage is owned and operated in Missoula, MT by Mike Eckelkamp and Justin Townsend. Their mobile storage containers are a convenient and cost-effective solution for homeowners and commercial customers in Missoula who want to move or store items. These containers are easy to transport and can be placed at any location with ease, making them ideal for those moving or for extra space around the home while doing construction, renovation, or remodels.
When Mike and Justin proposed turning a retired storage box into a community centered art activation, the Arts Missoula team came up with approximately one million different possibilities for what we could do with a giant, empty metal box.
We settled on a portable art gallery that will pop-up for the very first time at a Missoula PaddleHeads game on July 28th as they host us as their Community Partner for the evening. Then, the portable art gallery will pop up on the street at First Fridays throughout the year and at our annual events GermanFest and Missoula On Main.
