Created by Elisha Harteis, Wheels on the Bus is a traveling ceramic studio that aims at providing art experiences to youth in Missoula and surrounding communities. Elisha brings a decade of ceramics experience to her work and has designed the Wheels on the Bus program to bring the magic of ceramics directly to young people. Through collaborations with the ZACC, the Clay Studio of Missoula, the Missoula Art Museum, Flagship, the Lewis and Clark East Program, and SPARK, Elisha honed her art form and teaching style. Now she has transformed a school bus into a fully equipped ceramics studio, and travels to schools, after school programs, home school hubs, and even preschools throughout the community.
The goal of Wheels on the Bus is to enhance access to visual arts by eliminating barriers and directly engaging youth populations. By providing hands on experiences with clay, we aim to ignite creativity, foster imagination, and build self confidence in our future generations. Visual arts offer invaluable opportunities for problem solving, personal expression, and mental well-being, creating a necessary balance to the demands of academic life.
