Missoula, MT: MCT is proud to announce an open audition for the next Community Series production of the musical Dear Evan Hansen, Sunday, October 25 from 12-3PM with callbacks starting at 4PM. This musical is rated R-Restricted for language and themes of drug use, suicide, and mental health struggles. Those considering the opportunity are encouraged to read the Content Advisory on MCT’s website; performances are scheduled for January 14-24, 2007.
Director Joseph Martinez and Music Director/Conductor Jacob Logan will cast local volunteer actors and singers age 18 and older who can deliver this story of personal struggle and redemption with respect and empathy. The character of Evan Hansen calls for a male-identifying actor (strong pop tenor singer) to play a 17- year-old high school senior, who is excruciatingly self-conscious and suffers from depression and severe social anxiety. The weight of the title role is worthy of the mention. The other 7 named actors include 3 other male roles and 4 female roles, to play fellow students and parents. Though it is a story about high school students, there are several roles for adults, and an 8-member ensemble who will play high school students. Information on this show is available on the MCT AUDITION page.
Dear Evan Hansen, originally produced on Broadway in 2015, has become one of the most popular musicals of the last decade, winning numerous Tony, Grammy and Olivier awards with its most recognizable song “You Will Be Found.” According to Martinez, “Dear Evan Hansen is about our search for connections. When high schooler Evan tells a lie, it spirals into viral fame, he’s forced to choose between truth and belonging. It is a profoundly contemporary coming-of-age story for anyone who’s ever felt alone in a crowded room.” The pop musical score is by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the composers of The Greatest Showman and La La Land.
On Sunday, October 25, use the Main Street door and proceed to the 3rd floor to complete an audition form. Contact MCT in advance for accessibility needs.
