Kent Burkhardsmeier

Local artist, Kent Burkhardsmeier, teams up with nature to create photographic artworks and poetic writings. Kent’s body of work is a collective of life and story — living, thriving, and breathing together.

Kent travels, experiencing and engaging with the landscape. During his adventures, he captures the essence of the moment with his camera while listening to the whispers of nature. These whispers from nature inspire his poetic writings.

“When I am outdoors with a camera, I’m called to surroundings that touch my heart. I am moved to compose an image that captures my heartfelt experience. Back in my studio, I am inspired to create poems from the images. I feel nature “whispers” her story in poetic form through these images and our shared experience. Whispers are my creative conversations with nature.”

His photographic works have been featured in galleries across the United States and internationally. His photographic series, “Essence of Huangshan,” was awarded the Gold medal and Bronze medal for Landscape Professional Series and Fine Art Professional Series (respectively) in the 2023 ReFocus Awards.

Kent has published two photo-poem books (Stillness and Awareness), photographic images, and inspired poems.

Kent is a member of Artists Along the Bitterroot and resides in Stevensville.
